Post-Interview report.... I just received an email from the company doing background checks. Also, at least one of my references has been called. Check your email.

I got the same thing. Really strange to get a background check with no offer of employment.

Got that email tonight too, I'd say its good news otherwise they wouldn't spend the money for the background.....

Does anyone know what the medical consists of? Blood work? EKG?

I heard that they cant do medicals anymore because of HIPAA, if you have an FAA medical you are obviously able to do your job.....just hearsay though....The HR lady ddnt say anything about a medical, just made sure I knew I was required to have 1st class when I showed up to class

Got the email yesterday as well. Several of my refs/recs were called also.
It was my understanding, too, that after the background check was the medical. Then the conditional offer followed.
If the medical is like what it was back pre 9/11, it's described as an astronaut physical...lol. EKG, blood work checking for Bilirubin, laying down & placing tiny weights on your eyelids, blowing into a tube to check lung capacity & see if you smoke regularly, etc.
My buddy who flies at AA took me onto the union website and here's some info I found out:
• AA has around 8600 "active" pilots. But, if all came back from Mil Leave and recall, there's 9869 total. Of that, 9744 AA with 125 AE flow.
• last 3 training classes (recalls & AE) have ALL had 26 in the class with all based in MIA...737/D, 737/I, & 767/I.
• MERGER PLANNED BASES:
CLT, DCA, DFW, LAX, LGA, MIA, ORD, PHL, PHX
-- The new American network will serve 62 additional destinations once merged with the US Airways’ network, for a total of 218 domestic destinations with 682 domestic routes and a total of 118 international destinations with 218 international routes. The new international destinations added to the American network will be Amsterdam, Athens, Brussels, Glasgow, Lisbon, Munich, Shannon and Tel Aviv. In total, the new American network will operate approximately 6,700 flights daily to 336 destinations in 56 countries. According to a joint press release by American and US Airways, the combined airline is expected to maintain hubs in Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Philadelphia, Charlotte, Washington, D.C. and Phoenix.The companies added that the merger of two networks is very complementary, with only 12 overlapping routes of the more than 900 that exist between the two airline networks.
• last month's bid still consisted of the following bases & aircraft:
BOS: 737/D, 767/I

They started to call my references this morning. Sure hope the medical happens soon, I have to leave on a 9 day trip next week

Think my background check might already be done. Cc'd on an email from HireRight informing Sharon R. (AA) that I requested a copy of my report. So, guessing the report is finished.
They aren't wasting any time & I ain't complaining.

Got the email but no one has been called. Sounds like I'm on the bottom of the pile. Hope the merger news today works in our favor. Really hoping to get based out of MIA so thanks for that inside union info!
